असमृद्धेन कामेन सर्वलोकस्य गर्हिता ।
कैकेयी तस्य जग्राह चरणौ सव्यपत्रपा ॥२-९२-१६॥
Asamṛddhena kāmena sarvalokasya garhitā । Kaikeyī tasya jagrāha caraṇau savyapatrapā ॥2-92-16॥
Translation
With her desire unfulfilled and reviled by the whole world, Kaikeyi also grasped his feet, filled with shame.

अपनी कामना पूरी न होने के कारण (असमृद्धेन कामेन) और समस्त संसार द्वारा निंदित, कैकेयी ने भी लज्जापूर्वक (सव्यपत्रपा) ऋषि के चरण स्पर्श किए।
English Commentary
Kaikeyi is introduced with the heavy burden of her actions. She is described as having an asamṛddhena kāmena (unfulfilled desire/ambition)—her plot to crown Bharata failed as he rejected the throne, leaving her with only widowhood and infamy (sarvalokasya garhitā). The term savyapatrapā (bashful/ashamed) suggests she is conscious of her guilt and the public scorn she faces. Her touching of the Sage's feet is an act of penitence and obligatory respect, performed under the weight of immense shame.

वाल्मीकि जी कैकेयी का चित्रण कठोर किन्तु यथार्थवादी ढंग से करते हैं। 'असमृद्धेन कामेन' (अपूर्ण कामना) बताती है कि राम को वन भेजकर और भरत को राज्य दिलाकर भी उसे कुछ हासिल नहीं हुआ—भरत ने राज्य ठुकरा दिया और पति की मृत्यु हो गई। वह 'सर्वलोकस्य गर्हिता' (सारे संसार द्वारा निंदित) है। 'सव्यपत्रपा' (लज्जा सहित/शर्मिंदा) शब्द बताता है कि उसे अपनी करनी पर पछतावा है और वह ऋषि का सामना करने में संकोच कर रही है, फिर भी शिष्टाचार वश चरण स्पर्श करती है।
