गजकन्या गजाश्चैव हेमकक्ष्या: पताकिन: ।
जीमूता इव घर्मान्ते सघोषा: सम्प्रतस्थिरे ॥२-९२-३३॥
gajakanyā gajāścaiva hemakakṣyā: patākina: |
jīmūtā iva gharmānte saghoṣā: sampratasthire ॥2-92-33॥
Translation
Female and male elephants, adorned with golden girths and banners, set forth making sounds like clouds at the end of summer.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हथिनियाँ और हाथी, जो सोने की रस्सियों (कक्ष्या) और पताकाओं से सुसज्जित थे, वर्षाऋतु के बादलों की तरह गर्जना करते हुए चल पड़े।
English Commentary
The imagery used here is majestic. The elephants, decorated with golden girths and flags, are compared to thundering clouds at the end of summer (onset of the monsoon). This simile serves two purposes: visually, it describes their dark, massive forms moving in unison; aurally, it compares their trumpeting and the bells to the sound of thunder. This conveys the sheer scale and acoustic impact of the procession as it begins to move, disturbing the quietude of the surroundings.

यहाँ हाथियों के विशाल समूह के प्रस्थान का दृश्य खींचा गया है। उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है—हाथियों को 'जीमूता इव घर्मान्ते' (गर्मी के अंत में बादलों के समान) कहा गया है। जिस प्रकार वर्षा ऋतु आने पर बादल गरजते हुए चलते हैं, वैसे ही ये हाथी चिंघाड़ते हुए चल रहे हैं। 'हेमकक्ष्या' (सोने के झूल या रस्सियाँ) हाथियों की भव्यता को बढ़ा रहे हैं। यह दृश्य सेना की शक्ति और भव्यता दोनों का परिचायक है।
