उपस्पृशंस्त्रिषवणं मधुमूलफलाशन: ।
नायोध्यायै न राज्याय स्पृहये ऽद्य त्वया सह ॥२-९५-१७॥
upaspṛśaṃstriṣavaṇaṃ madhumūlaphalāśanaḥ । nāyodhyāyai na rājyāyai spṛhaye 'dya tvayā saha ॥2-95-17॥
Translation
Bathing three times a day, subsisting on honey, roots, and fruits, and living with you—I do not yearn for Ayodhya nor the kingdom today.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तीनों समय (प्रातः, मध्याह्न, सायं) स्नान करते हुए और मधु, कंद-मूल, फलों का आहार करते हुए, तुम्हारे साथ रहते हुए मुझे न अयोध्या की इच्छा है और न ही राज्य की।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates Rama's complete adaptation to the ascetic lifestyle mixed with the joy of companionship. He follows the strict regimen of a hermit: bathing three times a day (triṣavaṇaṃ) and eating simple roots and fruits. Yet, he declares that due to Sita's company ("tvayā saha"), he harbors no desire (spṛhaye) for the throne or the city. This statement signifies that he has transcended the loss of his kingdom; his current life, disciplined yet filled with love, brings him total fulfillment.

यह श्लोक राम के वैराग्य और प्रेम का अद्भुत संगम है। 'त्रिषवणं' (तीनों काल स्नान) और 'कंद-मूल-फलाशन' वानप्रस्थ जीवन की कठोर साधना है, जिसे राम ने सहजता से अपना लिया है। परन्तु इस तपस्या में नीरसता नहीं है क्योंकि 'त्वया सह' (तुम्हारे साथ) जुड़ा है। सीता के साथ ने इस तपस्वी जीवन को भी इतना परिपूर्ण बना दिया है कि राम 'स्पृहये' (इच्छा करना/ललचाना) क्रिया का नकारात्मक प्रयोग करते हैं—उन्हें अब राज्य की कोई स्पृहा (लालसा) नहीं है। यह राम की आंतरिक संतोष की पराकाष्ठा है।
