गृहीतधनुषौ चावां गिरिं वीरश्रयावहै ।
अथवेहैव तिष्ठाव: सन्नद्धावुद्यतायुधौ ॥२-९६-२०॥
gṛhītadhanuṣau cāvāṃ giriṃ vīraśrayāvahai । athavehaiva tiṣṭhāvaḥ sannaddhāvudyatāyudhau ॥2-96-20॥
Translation
"O Hero! Shall we take shelter on the mountain holding our bows, or shall we stand right here, clad in armor with weapons raised?"

"हे वीर! हम दोनों धनुष लेकर पर्वत (की चोटी) का आश्रय लें, या फिर यहीं कवच पहनकर और हथियार उठाकर खड़े रहें?"
English Commentary
Lakshmana proposes two combat strategies. The first is to take the high ground (girim shrayāvahai), a classic military advantage allowing them to rain arrows down on the enemy. The second is to stand their ground (ihaiva tiṣṭhāvaḥ) and fight face-to-face. Both options involve fighting (udyatāyudhau - weapons raised). Lakshmana is soliciting a command from Rama, showing his readiness to execute whatever strategy Rama deems fit for the encounter.

लक्ष्मण पुनः सामरिक विकल्प (Tactical options) प्रस्तुत करते हैं। पहला विकल्प: 'गिरिं श्रयावहै' (ऊंचाई पर जाना)—युद्धनीति में ऊंचाई पर स्थित योद्धा (High ground) लाभ में रहता है। दूसरा विकल्प: 'इहैव तिष्ठाव:' (यहीं डट जाना)—आमने-सामने के युद्ध के लिए। लक्ष्मण राम से निर्णय मांग रहे हैं, लेकिन उनकी तैयारी पूरी है ('उद्यतायुधौ' - हथियार उठाए हुए)। वे भागने का नहीं, बल्कि लड़ने का विकल्प दे रहे हैं, चाहे वह डिफेंसिव हो या ऑफेंसिव।
