कैकेयीं च वधिष्यामि सानुबन्धां सबान्धवाम् ।
कलुषेणाद्य महता मेदिनी परिमुच्यताम् ॥ ॥२-९६-२७॥
Kaikeyīṃ ca vadhiṣyāmi sānubandhāṃ sabāndhavām । Kaluṣeṇādya mahatā medinī parimucyatām ॥ ॥2-96-27॥
Translation
I will kill Kaikeyi along with her kinsmen and supporters. Let the earth be rid of this great sin today.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं सगे-संबंधियों और समर्थकों सहित कैकेयी का भी वध कर डालूँगा। आज इस महापाप (कलंक) से पृथ्वी मुक्त हो जाए।
English Commentary
This verse marks the zenith of Lakshmana’s fury. He vows to commit matricide (killing his step-mother) and slaughter her entire kin, viewing Kaikeyi not as a mother figure but as a kaluṣa (great sin or pollution) burdening the earth. It emphasizes that for Lakshmana, devotion to Rama supersedes all other relationships and societal norms. He perceives the removal of Kaikeyi and her lineage as a cleansing act for the world, equating her actions with adharma that must be eradicated by force.

क्रोध के आवेश में लक्ष्मण मर्यादा की सीमा लांघने को तैयार हैं। वे न केवल भरत, बल्कि अपनी विमाता कैकेयी और उनके समर्थकों (संभवतः मंथरा आदि) के वध की प्रतिज्ञा करते हैं। वे कैकेयी के अस्तित्व को पृथ्वी के लिए 'कलुष' (पाप या गंदगी) मानते हैं। यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के सबसे उग्र क्षणों में से एक है, जहाँ लक्ष्मण का राम-प्रेम उन्हें सामाजिक और पारिवारिक मर्यादाओं के विरुद्ध विद्रोह करने के लिए प्रेरित कर रहा है। वे धरती का भार हल्का करने की बात करते हैं, जैसे किसी राक्षस का वध किया जाता है।
