Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शराणां धनुषश्चाहमनृणो ऽस्मि महामृधे ।
ससैन्यं भरतं हत्वा भविष्यामि न संशय: ॥ ॥२-९६-३१॥
Śarāṇāṃ dhanuṣaścāhamanṛṇo 'smi mahāmṛdhe । Sasainyaṃ Bharataṃ hatvā bhaviṣyāmi na saṃśayaḥ ॥ ॥2-96-31॥
Translation
By killing Bharata along with his army in this great battle, I shall undoubtedly discharge the debt I owe to my arrows and bow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इस महायुद्ध में सेना सहित भरत का वध करके, मैं अपने बाणों और धनुष के ऋण से निश्चय ही मुक्त हो जाऊँगा।
English Commentary
Lakshmana concludes his tirade by invoking the concept of Rina (debt). A warrior’s weapons carry an inherent obligation to be used for protection and justice. Lakshmana believes that by slaughtering Bharata and his army (sasainyaṃ), he will justify his carrying of the bow and pay back the debt he owes to his weapons. It signifies that inaction in the face of a perceived threat to Rama would be a failure of his duty as a wielder of the bow.

क्षत्रिय धर्म में अस्त्र-शस्त्र केवल प्रदर्शन की वस्तु नहीं, बल्कि एक दायित्व हैं। लक्ष्मण मानते हैं कि उनके धनुष और बाणों का उद्देश्य राम के शत्रुओं का नाश करना है। यदि वे संकट के समय इनका उपयोग नहीं करते, तो वे अपने आयुधों के ऋणी रह जाएंगे। 'अनृणो' (ऋण मुक्त) शब्द यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है। भरत का वध करके वे अपने क्षत्रियत्व और अपने अस्त्रों के प्रति अपने कर्तव्य को पूरा हुआ मानेंगे। यह लक्ष्मण के आवेशपूर्ण भाषण का समापन है।
