गजयूथानि वा ऽरण्ये महिषा वा महावने ।
वित्रासिता मृगा: सिंहै: सहसा प्रद्रुता दिश: ॥२-९६-८॥
gajayūthāni vā 'raṇye mahiṣā vā mahāvane । vitrāsitā mṛgāḥ siṃhaiḥ sahasā pradrutā diśaḥ ॥2-96-8॥
Translation
"Are herds of elephants or buffaloes in the great forest, or deer frightened by lions, suddenly running in all directions?"

"क्या इस महावन में हाथियों के झुंड, या जंगली भैंसे, या शेर से डरे हुए हिरण सहसा दिशाओं में भाग रहे हैं?"
English Commentary
Rama engages in deductive reasoning. Before jumping to the conclusion of human intrusion, he lists natural forest scenarios that could generate such noise: stampeding elephants, buffaloes, or predator-prey chases involving lions. This shows his rational mind; he attempts to match the auditory data with familiar forest patterns. He is asking Lakshmana to verify if the commotion fits any of these natural explanations.

राम यहाँ तार्किक रूप से ध्वनि के संभावित कारणों का अनुमान लगा रहे हैं। वे पहले प्राकृतिक कारणों (Natural causes) पर विचार करते हैं। क्या यह हाथियों या भैंसों की आपसी भिड़ंत है? या शेरों द्वारा शिकार किए जाने पर मृगों की भगदड़ है? यह राम की विचार-प्रक्रिया को दर्शाता है—वे तुरंत किसी निष्कर्ष पर नहीं पहुँचते, बल्कि विभिन्न संभावनाओं को तौलते हैं। वन में ऐसे दृश्य सामान्य हो सकते हैं, इसलिए वे पुष्टि करना चाहते हैं कि यह कोई वन्य गतिविधि है या कुछ और।
