राजा वा राजमात्रो वा मृगयामटते वने ।
अन्यद्वा श्वापदं किञ्चित् सौमित्रे ज्ञातुमर्हसि ॥२-९६-९॥
rājā vā rājamātro vā mṛgayāmaṭate vane । anyadvā śvāpadaṃ kiñcit saumitre jñātumarhasi ॥2-96-9॥
Translation
"Or is a king or a prince hunting in the forest? Or is it some other beast of prey? O Saumitri, you ought to find out."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे सौमित्रे! (या फिर) कोई राजा या राजकुमार वन में शिकार खेल रहा है? या यह कोई और हिंसक जीव है? तुम्हें यह जानना चाहिए (पता लगाना चाहिए)।"
English Commentary
Moving beyond natural causes, Rama hypothesizes human agency. He speculates that a King or someone of royal status (rājamātra) might be hunting (mṛgayām), which would explain the chaos. This is a crucial intuition. He instructs Lakshmana to find out the truth. The shift from 'beasts' to 'Kings' suggests Rama subconsciously recognizes the sound of an organized force, distinctive from random animal noises.

प्राकृतिक कारणों के बाद, राम मानवीय हस्तक्षेपी की संभावना पर विचार करते हैं। 'राजा वा राजमात्रो वा' (राजा या राजा के तुल्य कोई उच्च अधिकारी/राजकुमार) का उल्लेख महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि इतनी भारी हलचल और शोर केवल कोई राजसी आखेटक दल ही कर सकता है। राम लक्ष्मण को 'ज्ञातुमर्हसि' (तुम्हें जानना चाहिए) कहकर अन्वेषण का आदेश देते हैं। राम को आशंका है कि उनके एकांतवास में किसी बाहरी शक्ति का प्रवेश हो चुका है, जो आखेट (शिकार) के बहाने आया हो सकता है।
