Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
व्रीडितं लक्ष्मणं दृष्ट्वा राघव: प्रत्युवाच ह।
एष मन्ये महाबाहुरिहास्मान् द्रष्टुमागत: ॥२-९७-२१॥
vrīḍitaṃ lakṣmaṇaḥ dṛṣṭvā rāghavaḥ pratyuvāca ha |
eṣa manye mahābāhurihāsmān draṣṭumāgataḥ ॥2-97-21॥
Translation
Seeing Lakshmana embarrassed, Raghava replied, "I too think that the mighty-armed one has come here to see us."
हिंदी अनुवाद
लक्ष्मण को लज्जित देखकर राघव (श्रीराम) ने उत्तर दिया—"मैं भी ऐसा ही मानता हूँ कि वे महाबाहु (पिताजी) हमें यहाँ देखने आए हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama, sensing Lakshmana's discomfort, gracefully accepts his brother's new theory to ease his embarrassment. By agreeing that it might indeed be their father, Rama validates Lakshmana and steers the conversation toward a positive direction. The use of "Mahabahu" (mighty-armed) for Dasharatha reflects Rama's deep respect for his father's valor. Although Rama is wise, in this moment, he indulges in the emotional possibility of a reunion, acting as a supportive brother to alleviate Lakshmana's shame rather than correcting him further.

श्रीराम लक्ष्मण की मनोदशा को भांप लेते हैं। वे लक्ष्मण को और अधिक लज्जित न करते हुए उनकी बात का समर्थन करते हैं। श्रीराम कहते हैं कि उन्हें भी प्रतीत होता है कि पिता दशरथ ही आए हैं। यहाँ श्रीराम का 'महाबाहु' शब्द का प्रयोग पिता के पराक्रम और सामर्थ्य के प्रति उनके आदर को दर्शाता है। यद्यपि श्रीराम त्रिकालदर्शी ऋषि-तुल्य हैं, किन्तु यहाँ वे एक मानवीय पुत्र की भांति पिता के आगमन की आशा में लक्ष्मण के कथन से सहमति जताकर भ्रातृ-प्रेम का निर्वाह करते हैं और लक्ष्मण का संकोच दूर करते हैं।
