Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तं दृष्ट्वा भरत: श्रीमान् मुमोह सहबान्धव:।
अत्र राम इति ज्ञात्वा गत: पारमिवाम्भस: ॥२-९८-१७॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā bharataḥ śrīmān mumoha sahabāndhavaḥ |
atra rāma iti jñātvā gataḥ pāramivāmbhasaḥ ॥2-98-17॥
Translation
Seeing that (sign), the glorious Bharata, along with his kinsman (Shatrughna), was overcome with emotion. Knowing "Rama is here," he felt as if he had crossed over to the other shore of an ocean.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (पर्वत/धुएं/आश्रम के चिह्न) को देखकर, श्रीमान भरत अपने भाई (शत्रुघ्न) के साथ हर्ष से विह्वल (मोहित) हो गए। "राम यहाँ हैं," यह जानकर वे वैसे ही प्रसन्न हुए जैसे कोई (डूबता हुआ व्यक्ति) जल के पार पहुँच गया हो।
English Commentary
Upon spotting the definitive sign of the hermitage (likely the smoke described in verses often found just prior to this in other editions), Bharata is overwhelmed. The verb "mumoha" suggests a trance-like state of joy or swooning from relief. The realization "Atra Rama" (Rama is here) acts as an anchor. The simile of crossing the ocean ("paramivambhasah") implies that the separation from Rama was like drowning in a shoreless ocean of grief, and finding his location is akin to reaching the safety of land.

आश्रम के स्पष्ट चिह्न (जैसे धुएं का स्तंभ या विशिष्ट वृक्ष) को देखकर भरत की प्रतिक्रिया अत्यंत तीव्र होती है। 'मुमोह' का अर्थ यहाँ बेहोश होना नहीं, बल्कि हर्ष-अतिरेक से सुध-बुध खो बैठना है। 'अत्र राम' (राम यहाँ हैं)—यह ज्ञान ही उनके लिए जीवनदायिनी औषधि है। 'गत: पारमिवाम्भस:' की उपमा बहुत सुंदर है; जैसे कोई समुद्र में डूब रहा हो और उसे किनारा मिल जाए, वैसे ही भरत को शोक के सागर में राम के निकट होने का समाचार किनारे जैसा लगा।
