ऋषिं वसिष्ठं सन्दिश्य मातऽर्मे शीघ्रमानय।
इति त्वरितमग्रे स जगाम गुरुवत्सल: ॥२-९९-२॥
ṛṣiṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ sandiśya mātarme śīghramānaya |
iti tvaritamagre sa jagāma guruvatsalaḥ ॥2-99-2॥
Translation
Having instructed the sage Vashistha, "Bring my mothers quickly," he, who was affectionate towards his elders, went ahead hurriedly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मेरी माताओं को शीघ्र ले आइए,"—कुलगुरु वशिष्ठ को ऐसा संदेश (आदेश/निवेदन) देकर, बड़ों के प्रति स्नेह रखने वाले (गुरुवत्सल) भरत शीघ्रता से आगे बढ़ गए।
English Commentary
Bharata makes final arrangements for the family reunion. He requests Sage Vashistha to escort the mothers to the hermitage, ensuring they are cared for. However, his own patience has run out. He cannot match the slow pace of the elderly entourage. The text describes him as "Guruvatsala" (lover of elders/superiors), which in this context drives him rushing toward his eldest brother, Rama. He dashes ahead, leaving the formal procession behind.

भरत यद्यपि राम से मिलने के लिए दौड़ पड़ना चाहते हैं, परन्तु वे माताओं को नहीं भूलते। वे वशिष्ठ ऋषि से निवेदन करते हैं कि वे माताओं (कौशल्या, सुमित्रा, कैकेयी) को लेकर पीछे-पीछे आएं। 'मातर्मे' (मेरी माताओं को) बहुवचन का प्रयोग है। इसके बाद वे स्वयं के वेग को रोक नहीं पाते और 'त्वरितमग्रे' (तेजी से आगे) निकल जाते हैं। 'गुरुवत्सल' विशेषण यहाँ विरोधाभासी लग सकता है क्योंकि वे गुरु को पीछे छोड़ रहे हैं, लेकिन इसका अर्थ है कि वे राम (जो उनके परम गुरु हैं) के प्रति वात्सल्य/प्रेम के कारण खिंचे जा रहे हैं।
