Translation
Having looked closely for a moment, Bharata saw his Guru (elder brother) Rama seated in the hut, wearing a circle of matted hair.

एक मुहूर्त तक ध्यान से देखने के पश्चात भरत ने अपने गुरु (बड़े भाई) राम को पर्णशाला में बैठे हुए देखा, जो जटाओं का मंडल धारण किए हुए थे।
English Commentary
This is the climax of the canto—the visual contact. Bharata gazes for a moment ('muhurtam'), likely due to tears blurring his vision or the shock of the sight. He identifies Rama as 'Gurum'—the preceptor and elder brother, worthy of worship. The defining feature mentioned is 'jatamandaladharinam' (wearing a coil of matted hair). This physical transformation from a prince to an ascetic hits Bharata hard. The simplicity of Rama 'seated' in a hut contrasts with the throne he left behind. It captures the tragedy and the majesty of the situation simultaneously.
