जो पहले (सिर पर) भांति-भांति के सुंदर पुष्प धारण करते थे, वे ही राघव आज जटाओं का यह भार कैसे वहन कर रहे हैं?
English Commentary
Bharata focuses on Rama’s head, the most sacred part of the body for a royal. He remembers Rama adorned with 'sumanasah' (flowers) which are light, fragrant, and pleasing. Now, he sees the 'jatabharam'—the heavy burden of matted locks. The word 'bharam' (weight/burden) indicates that this is not just a cosmetic change but a physical strain. Bharata asks 'Katham' (How?), expressing his disbelief that someone so delicate could endure such ruggedness. It symbolizes the shift from a life of aesthetic pleasure to one of austere penance.

यहाँ प्रयुक्त 'सुमनस:' का अर्थ पुष्प है। राम के कोमल मस्तक पर सुगंधित और हल्के पुष्प सुशोभित होते थे। आज वहां 'जटाभारम्' (जटाओं का बोझ) है। 'भारम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है; जटाएं केवल बाल नहीं हैं, वे भारी और असुविधाजनक हैं, जिनमें धूल और मैल जम जाता है। भरत प्रश्न करते हैं 'कथम्' (कैसे)? यह अविश्वास और पीड़ा का प्रश्न है। रघुकुल के जिस मस्तक पर राजमुकुट होना चाहिए था, वहां जटाओं का भार देखकर भरत का ह्रदय विदीर्ण हो रहा है। यह राम के शारीरिक कष्ट (Physical Discomfort) के प्रति भरत की संवेदनशीलता को दर्शाता है।
