Translation
Tormented by grief, the mighty prince Bharata said "Arya" (Noble One) once piteously and could not say anything more.

दुःख से संतप्त, महाबली राजपुत्र भरत ने केवल एक बार दीनतापूर्वक "आर्य!" (हे भाई!) कहा और फिर कुछ नहीं बोल सके।
English Commentary
This verse emphasizes the silencing power of true grief. Bharata is epithetized as 'Mahabalah' (mighty/strong), reminding us of his warrior status, which makes his current vulnerability more striking. He manages to utter only one word: "Arya" (Noble Brother). This single address encapsulates his respect, love, and plea for forgiveness. Beyond that, he is silenced ('no vacha kinchana'). It is a realistic depiction of trauma where cognitive functions like speech shut down under emotional overload. The mighty prince is reduced to a silent, sobbing heap.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ विरोधाभास का प्रयोग करते हैं: भरत 'महाबल:' (महाबली) हैं, किन्तु शोक ने उन्हें इतना निर्बल कर दिया है कि वे बोल भी नहीं पा रहे। उन्होंने केवल एक शब्द कहा - "आर्य" (बड़े भाई/श्रेष्ठ)। यह एक शब्द ही उनकी सारी व्यथा, श्रद्धा और समर्पण को व्यक्त करने के लिए पर्याप्त था। उसके बाद 'पुनर्नोवाच किञ्चन' (फिर कुछ नहीं बोले) - उनका गला रुंध गया। जब वेदना सीमा पार कर जाती है, तो शब्द समाप्त हो जाते हैं और केवल मौन रह जाता है। भरत की यह मूक अवस्था उनके विलाप से अधिक प्रभावशाली है।
