प्रजापति समः श्रीमान् धता रिपु निषूदनः ।
रक्षिता जीवलोकस्य धर्मस्य परि रक्षिता ॥१-१-१३॥
Prajāpati samaḥ śrīmān dhatā ripu niṣūdanaḥ |
Rakṣitā jīvalokasya dharmasya pari rakṣitā ॥1-1-13॥
Translation
He (Shri Rama) is equal to Prajāpati (the creator/sustainer), glorious (resplendent), the supporter (sustainer) of all, and the annihilator of enemies. He is the protector of the living world, and the special guardian of Dharma (righteousness).

वे (श्रीराम) ब्रह्मा जी के समान (सृष्टि की रक्षा करने में), शोभायमान (श्रीमान), सब कुछ धारण करने वाले (धता), शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले (रिपु निषूदन) हैं। वे समस्त जीवलोक (संसार) के रक्षक और धर्म की विशेष रूप से रक्षा करने वाले हैं।
English Commentary
This verse is also spoken by Sage Nārada to Sage Vālmīki, describing Shri Rāma's transcendent qualities and His capacity for governance and cosmic order. This verse elevates Shri Rāma’s attributes beyond mere human limits, equating Him with divine powers.
'Prajāpati samaḥ' means Shri Rāma is comparable to Lord Brahmā (Prajāpati) in His functions of sustaining and protecting creation, highlighting His immense administrative capability and role in public welfare. 'Śrīmān' denotes His divine splendor and majesty, while 'dhatā' signifies that He is the foundation and sustainer of all existence.
'Ripu niṣūdanaḥ' points to His heroism and ability to destroy enemies, a necessary function for upholding Dharma. The final part of the verse clarifies His supreme duty: 'Rakṣitā jīvalokasya dharmasya pari rakṣitā'. He is not just the protector of the entire living world, but specifically the guardian of Dharma (righteousness). This concluding epithet (pari rakṣitā - special guardian) emphasizes the very purpose of His incarnation—to fully establish and protect Dharma. These qualities establish Shri Rāma as the ideal king, a divine personality, and the supreme protector of righteousness.

यह श्लोक भी महर्षि नारद द्वारा महर्षि वाल्मीकि को श्रीराम के अलौकिक गुणों और उनकी प्रशासकीय क्षमता का वर्णन करते हुए कहा गया है। यह श्लोक श्रीराम के गुणों को केवल मानवीय सीमा तक नहीं रखता, बल्कि उन्हें दैवी शक्तियों के समकक्ष स्थापित करता है।
