सर्व शास्त्र अर्थ तत्त्वज्ञो स्मृतिमान् प्रतिभानवान् ।
सर्वलोक प्रियः साधुः अदीनाअत्मा विचक्षणः ॥१-१-१५॥
Sarva śāstra artha tattvajño smṛtimān pratibhānavān |
Sarvaloka priyaḥ sādhuḥ adīnātmā vicakṣaṇaḥ ॥1-1-15॥
Translation
He (Shri Rama) is the knower of the essence and meaning of all scriptures, possesses an excellent memory, and is highly intelligent (quick-witted). He is beloved by all the world, virtuous (pious), possesses a noble and undepressed spirit, and is exceedingly judicious (sagacious).

वे (श्रीराम) सभी शास्त्रों के अर्थ और तत्त्व को जानने वाले हैं, उत्तम स्मरण शक्ति वाले (स्मृतिमान) और तीव्र बुद्धि वाले (प्रतिभानवान) हैं। वे समस्त संसार को प्रिय हैं, सज्जन (साधु) हैं, दीनतारहित आत्मा वाले (अदीनात्मा) हैं, और अत्यंत कुशल (विचक्षण) हैं।
English Commentary
In this verse, Sage Nārada describes to Sage Vālmīki the peak of Shri Rāma's knowledge, character, and popularity. This verse establishes Shri Rāma as a complete scholar, a beloved leader, and a noble sage.
The phrase 'Sarva śāstra artha tattvajño' indicates that Shri Rāma’s knowledge is not just confined to the Vedas and Vedāṅgas but extends to the profound essence and meaning of all scriptures, demonstrating His intellectual depth. The combination of 'smṛtimān' (excellent memory) and 'pratibhānavān' (quick-witted) confirms His sharp mental acuity—He possesses both outstanding recall and the innate genius to make swift, appropriate judgments.
The latter half of the verse depicts His public and moral persona. 'Sarvaloka priyaḥ' signifies that He is beloved not only by His subjects but by all beings in all worlds, pointing to His universal appeal and harmony. 'Sādhuḥ' confirms His goodness and adherence to righteousness. इस श्लोक में महर्षि नारद द्वारा महर्षि वाल्मीकि को श्रीराम के ज्ञान, चरित्र और लोकप्रियता की पराकाष्ठा का वर्णन किया गया है। यह श्लोक श्रीराम को एक पूर्ण विद्वान, एक लोकप्रिय नेता और एक महान साधु के रूप में स्थापित करता है।
