प्रतिज्ञातः च रामेण वधः संयति रक्षसाम् ।
ऋषीणाम् अग्नि कल्पानाम् दंडकारण्य वासीनाम् ॥१-१-४५॥
pratijñātaḥ ca rāmeṇa vadhaḥ saṃyati rakṣasām । ṛṣīṇām agni kalpānām daṃḍakāraṇya vāsinām ॥1-1-45॥
Translation
And the slaying of the Rākṣasas in battle was promised by Rāma; (this promise was made) for the sake of the sages who resided in Daṇḍakāraṇya and were resplendent like fire.

और राम द्वारा प्रतिज्ञा की गई कि वह युद्ध में राक्षसों का वध करेंगे, दंडकारण्य में निवास करने वाले अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी ऋषियों के लिए।
English Commentary
This verse reinforces the essence of the previous śloka by placing further emphasis on Śrī Rāma's solemn vow (pratijñātaḥ). It clarifies that this promise was made not for a trivial reason, but for the protection of the Maharshis who resided in the dreaded forest of Daṇḍakāraṇya. These sages are described as 'agni kalpānām', meaning resplendent like fire or shining with the power of their asceticism (tapas). This epithet highlights their great power and sacred purity. Śrī Rāma made an unwavering commitment to these revered and holy sages to slay the Rākṣasas in battle (saṃyati). This vow confirms Rāma's profound commitment to Dharma and the protection of the pious.
