ततो गृध्रस्य वचनात् संपातेः हनुमान् बली ।
शत योजन विस्तीर्णम् पुप्लुवे लवण अर्णवम् ॥१-१-७२॥
tato gṛdhrasya vacanāt sampāteḥ hanumān balī |
śata yojana vistīrṇam pupluve lavaṇa arṇavam ॥1-1-72॥
Translation
Thereafter, the mighty Hanumān, following the words (instruction) of the vulture Sampāti, leaped across the hundred-yojana wide salt-ocean.

तत्पश्चात्, बलवान हनुमान ने गृध्र (गिद्ध) संपाति के वचन (निर्देश) से, सौ योजन विस्तार वाले उस खारे समुद्र को लाँघ (पार कर) लिया।
English Commentary
This verse is a continuation of the concise Rāmāyaṇa narrative found in the first Sarga of the Bālakāṇḍa, as related by Sage Nārada to Sage Vālmīki. It follows the context of the previous verse, where Śrī Hanumān had dispatched the Vānaras in search of Mātā Sītā. The phrase gṛdhrasya vacanāt sampāteḥ indicates that crucial intelligence was received from the vulture king Sampāti during the search mission. Sampāti informed the Vānaras that Rāvaṇa had taken Mātā Sītā to Laṅkā, which was situated across the ocean. The term Hanumān balī (mighty Hanumān) emphasizes Śrī Hanumān's extraordinary physical and spiritual strength, which was necessary for this monumental feat. The reference to the śata yojana vistīrṇam lavaṇa arṇavam (hundred-yojana wide salt-ocean) highlights the immense obstacle that only Śrī Hanumān could overcome.
