Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सप्ताष्ट दिवसान् राजा राजानम् इदम् अब्रवीत् ।
शांता तव सुता राजन् सह भर्त्रा विशाम् पते ॥१-११-१९॥
saptāṣṭa divasān rājā rājānam idam abravīt |
śāṃtā tava sutā rājan saha bhartrā viśām pate ॥1-11-19॥
Translation
After seven or eight days, the King (Dasharatha) said this to the King (Lomapada): 'O King! O Lord of the people! Your daughter Shanta is here with her husband (Rishyasringa).'

सात या आठ दिन बीतने के बाद, राजा (दशरथ) ने उस राजा (लोमपाद) से यह कहा: 'हे राजन्! हे प्रजापालक! आपकी पुत्री शान्ता अपने पति (ऋष्यश्रृंग) के साथ है।'
English Commentary
This $shloka$ is from the 11th $sarga$ of the 'Balakanda' in the Valmiki Ramayana. The conversation is taking place between King Dasharatha of Ayodhya and King Lomapada of Anga. Following the previous events where King Dasharatha had respectfully brought Maharshi Rishyasringa and his wife Shanta (who was adopted by Lomapada) to the region, this verse details the start of the next phase. After staying for seven or eight days, King Dasharatha addresses King Lomapada. Dasharatha reminds Lomapada that Shanta (who is Lomapada’s adopted daughter) is present along with her husband, Maharshi Rishyasringa. This mention sets the crucial stage for the humble request that King Dasharatha is about to make in the subsequent $shloka$—namely, the request to send Rishyasringa to Ayodhya for the Putrakameshti Yajna. The verse emphasizes the decorum and respect maintained in their diplomatic and familial relations.

यह श्लोक वाल्मीकि रामायण के ‘बालकाण्ड’ के ११वें सर्ग का है। यह वार्तालाप अयोध्या के राजा दशरथ और अंग देश के राजा लोमपाद के बीच हो रहा है। पिछले श्लोक में यह वर्णन किया गया था कि राजा दशरथ ने महर्षि ऋष्यश्रृंग और उनकी पत्नी शान्ता को सम्मानपूर्वक अपने साथ लिया था। इस श्लोक में कहा गया है कि सात या आठ दिन तक रुकने के बाद, राजा दशरथ ने राजा लोमपाद से कुछ कहा। दशरथ जी लोमपाद को याद दिलाते हैं कि शान्ता (जो दशरथ की भी पुत्री थी और लोमपाद द्वारा गोद ली गई थी) अपने पति महर्षि ऋष्यश्रृंग के साथ वहाँ है। यह उल्लेख दशरथ जी के उस विनम्र निवेदन की पृष्ठभूमि बनाता है जो वह अगले श्लोक में करने वाले हैं। यह सद्भावना और संबंधों के आदर को दर्शाता है, जहाँ एक महान राजा भी अपने उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए विनम्रतापूर्वक अनुरोध करता है।
