धूपितम् सिक्त सम्मिष्टम् पताकाभिः अलंकृतम् ।
ततः प्रहृष्टाः पौराः ते श्रुत्वा राजानम् आगतम् ॥१-११-२५॥
dhūpitam sikta sammṛṣṭam patākābhiḥ alaṅkṛtam |
tataḥ prahṛṣṭāḥ paurāḥ te śrutvā rājānam āgatam ॥1-11-25॥
Translation
The city was made fragrant with incense, sprinkled (with water), well-cleaned, and decorated with flags. Then, those citizens, having heard that the King was coming, were greatly delighted.

यह शहर धूप, पानी से छिड़का, अच्छे से साफ किया गया और पताकाओं से सजाया गया। फिर, उन नागरिकों ने सुना कि राजा आ रहा है, वे अत्यंत प्रसन्न हो गए।
English Commentary
This verse describes the joy of the citizens upon hearing the news of King Dasharatha's arrival. They make the city fragrant by burning incense, sprinkling it with water, thoroughly cleaning it, and adorning it with banners. This illustrates the deep respect the citizens have for the King and the warm welcome they are preparing for his arrival. The King's coming is a message of happiness for them.
