तम् आनय महाभागम् स्वयम् एव सुसत्कृतम् ।
पूर्व संबन्धिनम् ज्ञात्वा ततः पूर्वम् ब्रवीमि ते ॥१-१३-२२॥
tam ānaya mahābhāgam svayam eva susatkṛtam |
pūrva saṃbandhinam jñātvā tataḥ pūrvam bravīmi te ॥1-13-22॥
Translation
"Go yourself and bring that illustrious one with great honor. Knowing him to be an ancient ally connected to us, I have mentioned him to you first."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"उन महाभाग (जनक) को तुम स्वयं जाकर अत्यंत आदर के साथ ले आओ। वे हमारे पुराने संबंधी हैं, यह जानकर ही मैंने उनका नाम सबसे पहले लिया है।"
English Commentary
Vasishtha instructs Sumantra, the Chief Minister, to go personally (svayam eva) rather than sending a subordinate messenger. This indicates the highest level of diplomatic protocol and respect. The phrase purva sambandhinam (ancient relation/connection) refers to the long-standing hereditary friendship and alliance between Ayodhya and Mithila, pre-dating the marriage of Rama and Sita. Vasishtha justifies placing Janaka first on the list based on this deep-rooted, historical bond which requires a personal touch from the highest state official.

वसिष्ठ जी सुमंत्र (महामंत्री) को आदेश देते हैं कि जनक को लाने के लिए किसी दूत को नहीं, बल्कि उन्हें 'स्वयं' (svayam eva) जाना होगा। यह प्रोटोकॉल में सर्वोच्च सम्मान है। 'पूर्व संबन्धिनम्' का अर्थ यहाँ विवाह संबंध नहीं (जो अभी हुआ नहीं है), बल्कि पीढ़ियों से चली आ रही मैत्री और कूटनीतिक मैत्री है। वसिष्ठ जी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि जनक का स्थान राजा दशरथ के जीवन में विशिष्ट है, इसीलिए उन्हें प्राथमिकता दी गई है।
