Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अङ्गेश्वरम् महेष्वासम् रोमपादम् सु सत्कृतम् ।
वयस्यम् राज सिंहस्य सपुत्रम् तम् इह आनय ॥१-१३-२५॥
aṅgeśvaram maheṣvāsam romapādam su satkṛtam |
vayasyam rāja siṃhasya sapuṭram tam iha ānaya ॥1-13-25॥
Translation
"Bring here Romapada, the Lord of Anga and a great archer, the friend of the Lion among Kings, along with his son, according him due honor."

"अंग देश के स्वामी, महान धनुर्धर (महेष्वास) और राजा दशरथ के मित्र (वयस्य) रोमपाद को, उनके पुत्र सहित, भली-भांति सत्कार करके यहाँ ले आओ।"
English Commentary
Romapada, the King of Anga, holds a unique dual status: he is a sovereign ruler and Dasharatha's vayasya (friend/contemporary). He is also the adoptive father of Shanta and father-in-law to Sage Rishyasringa, who is conducting the sacrifice. The term maheshvasam (great wielder of the bow) highlights his warrior credentials. Inviting him with his son strengthens the bond between the two families who are linked by both friendship and the marriage of Shanta and Rishyasringa.

रोमपाद अंग देश के राजा हैं और दशरथ के 'वयस्य' (बचपन के मित्र/सखा) हैं। यह वही रोमपाद हैं जिन्होंने दशरथ की पुत्री 'शांता' को गोद लिया था और जिनके यहाँ ऋष्यशृंग का विवाह हुआ। 'महेष्वासम्' (महा-इषु-आस) का अर्थ है महान धनुर्धर। चूंकि ऋष्यशृंग पहले से ही अयोध्या में हैं, अब उनके ससुर और राजा के समधी रोमपाद को औपचारिक रूप से यज्ञ के लिए बुलाया जा रहा है।
