प्राप्तिज्ञम् परमोदारम् सुसत्कृतम् पुरुषर्षभम् ।
राज्ञः शासनम् आदाय चोदयस्व नृपर्षभान् ।
प्राचीनान् सिन्धु सौवीरान् सौराष्ठ्रेयाम् च पार्थिवान् ॥१-१३-२७॥
prāptijñam paramodāram susatkṛtam puruṣarṣabham |
rājñaḥ śāsanam ādāya codayasva nṛparṣabhān |
prācīnān sindhu sauvīrān saurāṣṭreyām ca pārthivān ॥1-13-27॥
Translation
"Bring that bull among men (Magadha King), who knows the opportune moment and is supremely generous. Taking the King's command, urge the excellent kings of the East, and the rulers of Sindhu, Sauvira, and Saurashtra to come."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"उस (मगध राज) पुरुषश्रेष्ठ, समय के जानकार (प्राप्तिज्ञ) और परम उदार राजा को सत्कारपूर्वक लाओ। राजा की आज्ञा लेकर तुम पूर्व दिशा के राजाओं, सिंधु-सौवीर देश के राजाओं और सौराष्ट्र के राजाओं को भी प्रेरित (आमंत्रित) करो।"
English Commentary
Vasishtha expands the invitation list geographically, creating a map of ancient India. He instructs invitations for the kings of the Prachinan (Eastern regions), Sindhu-Sauvira (the Indus basin and Multan regions), and Saurashtra (modern Gujarat). The term praptijnam (one who knows what is to be obtained/done at the right time) describes the astuteness of the Magadha King mentioned previously. This listing confirms the Ashvamedha's intent to consolidate influence across the entire subcontinent.
