यज्ञो मे क्रियताम् ब्रह्मन् यथोक्तम् मुनिपुङ्गव ।
यथा न विघ्नाः क्रियन्ते यज्ञांगेषु विधीयताम् ॥१-१३-३॥
yajño me kriyatām brahman yathoktam munipuṅgava |
yathā na vighnāḥ kriyante yajñāṃgeṣu vidhīyatām ॥1-13-3॥
Translation
O Holy One, O Preeminent among Sages, let my sacrifice be performed exactly as prescribed. Please ordain it such that no obstacles arise in the constituent parts of the sacrifice.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे ब्रह्मन्! हे मुनि श्रेष्ठ! मेरा यज्ञ शास्त्रोक्त विधि से संपन्न करायें। ऐसी व्यवस्था करें जिससे यज्ञ के अंगों (कार्यों) में कोई विघ्न न आए।
English Commentary
This verse reveals King Dasharatha's apprehension regarding potential obstacles (vighnas), likely from malevolent forces (Rakshasas) or procedural errors. The Ashvamedha is a highly complex ritual where a single deviation can nullify the results or cause harm. By asking Vasishtha to ensure no impediments arise in the yajnangeshu (parts of the sacrifice), the King places the spiritual security of the event entirely in the Sage's hands. The insistence on yathoktam (as prescribed) emphasizes his desire for strict scriptural adherence.

यहाँ राजा दशरथ के मन में राक्षसों या दैवीय बाधाओं का भय झलकता है, इसीलिए वे 'विघ्न' न होने की प्रार्थना कर रहे हैं। अश्वमेध यज्ञ अत्यंत जटिल होता है और इसमें छोटी सी त्रुटि भी अनर्थ कर सकती है। राजा वसिष्ठ जी पर पूर्ण विश्वास व्यक्त करते हैं कि केवल वे ही अपनी तपोबल से यज्ञ की रक्षा कर सकते हैं। 'यथोक्तम्' का तात्पर्य है कि वे वेदों में वर्णित विधि में कोई भी कमी नहीं चाहते।
