Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भवान् स्निग्धः सुहृन् मह्यम् गुरुः च परमो महान् ।
वोढव्यो भवता च एव भारो यज्ञस्य च उद्यतः ॥१-१३-४॥
bhavān snigdhaḥ suhṛn mahyam guruḥ ca paramo mahān |
voḍhavyo bhavatā ca eva bhāro yajñasya ca udyataḥ ॥1-13-4॥
Translation
You are affectionate towards me, a friend, and my supreme Guru. Therefore, the burden of this sacrifice, which is ready to commence, must be borne by you alone.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आप मेरे प्रति स्नेही हैं, मेरे सुहृद (मित्र) हैं और मेरे परम महान गुरु भी हैं। अतः इस आरम्भ किये हुए यज्ञ का भार आपको ही वहन करना होगा।
English Commentary
King Dasharatha highlights the multidimensional relationship he shares with Sage Vasishtha. Vasishtha is not just a formal preceptor but acts with affection (snigdha) and friendship (suhrt). Acknowledging the immense weight of the Ashvamedha, the King explicitly transfers the 'burden' (bhara) of the entire undertaking to the Sage. This signifies that while the King is the Yajamana (patron), the spiritual and logistical success rests on the Guru's shoulders. It is a statement of absolute trust and dependency.

राजा दशरथ यहाँ वसिष्ठ जी के साथ अपने बहुआयामी संबंधों को रेखांकित करते हैं। वसिष्ठ केवल गुरु ही नहीं, अपितु 'स्निग्धः' (स्नेह करने वाले) और 'सुहृद' (मित्रवत भला चाहने वाले) भी हैं। इतना बड़ा यज्ञ राजा अकेले नहीं कर सकता, उसे एक ऐसे मार्गदर्शक की आवश्यकता है जो इस 'भार' (जिम्मेदारी) को अपना समझकर उठाए। यह श्लोक पूर्ण समर्पण (surrender) का भाव व्यक्त करता है।
