Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स्वलंकृताः च पुरुषा ब्राह्मणान् पर्यवेषयन् ।
उपासन्ते च तान् अन्ये सुमृष्ट मणि कुण्डलाः ॥ ॥१-१४-१८॥
Svalaṃkṛtāḥ ca puruṣā brāhmaṇān paryaveṣayan । Upāsante ca tān anye sumṛṣṭa maṇi kuṇḍalāḥ ॥ ॥1-14-18॥
Translation
Well-adorned men served the Brahmins. Others, wearing polished gem-studded earrings, assisted them/waited upon the guests.

सुंदर आभूषणों से सजे हुए पुरुष ब्राह्मणों को भोजन परोस रहे थे। और अन्य लोग, जो चमचमते हुए मणियों के कुंडल पहने हुए थे, उनकी (परोसने वालों की/ब्राह्मणों की) सहायता/सेवा कर रहे थे।
English Commentary
The elegance of the service is detailed here. The servers were not dressed in rags but were svalankritah (well-adorned) and wore mani kundala (gem-studded earrings). This elevates the act of serving food to a royal ceremony. It implies two things: the immense wealth of Ayodhya (where even servers wore gems) and the deep respect for the guests, as the host ensured that the service staff appeared dignified and auspicious while attending to the Brahmins.

यह श्लोक 'श्रम की गरिमा' और सेवा के सौंदर्य को प्रस्तुत करता है। परोसने वाले (Waiters) कोई साधारण नौकर नहीं लग रहे थे, वे 'स्वलंकृताः' (अच्छे वस्त्र-अलंकार पहने हुए) और 'मणिकुण्डलाः' (रत्नों के कुंडल पहने हुए) थे। यह अतिथियों के सम्मान का सूचक है—जब परोसने वाला ही राजसी वेशभूषा में हो, तो खाने वाले को राजा जैसा अनुभव होता है। इससे यह भी पता चलता है कि अयोध्या में समृद्धि इतनी थी कि सेवक भी मणियाँ पहनते थे।
