दिवसे दिवसे तत्र संस्तरे कुशला द्विजाः ।
सर्व कर्माणि चक्रुः ते यथा शास्त्रं प्रचोदिताः ॥ ॥१-१४-२०॥
Divase divase tatra saṃstare kuśalā dvijāḥ । Sarva karmāṇi cakruḥ te yathā śāstraṃ pracoditāḥ ॥ ॥1-14-20॥
Translation
Day after day in that sacrificial assembly, the skilled Brahmins performed all the rituals exactly as prescribed and directed by the scriptures.

उस यज्ञ मंडप में कुशल ब्राह्मण प्रतिदिन समस्त कार्य ठीक उसी प्रकार संपन्न करते थे, जैसा कि शास्त्रों में निर्देश दिया गया है।
English Commentary
The repetitive emphasis on strict adherence to scriptural injunctions (yatha shastram) underscores the perfection aimed for in King Dasharatha's Yajna. An Ashvamedha Yajna spans a long duration, and maintaining focus and precision day after day is a challenging feat. This verse confirms that consistency was maintained daily (divase divase). The Brahmins are described as 'Kushala' (skilled/expert), implying they were not just reciting mantras by rote but understood the nuances of the performance. In Vedic philosophy, the efficacy of a Yajna depends on the precision of the ritual acts. This verse assures the reader that there were no deviations or shortcuts; every act was performed with the exactitude required by the sacred texts, ensuring the spiritual potency of the sacrifice remained intact.

वाल्मीकि रामायण में 'यथा शास्त्रं' (शास्त्रों के अनुसार) का बार-बार उल्लेख यह सिद्ध करता है कि महाराज दशरथ का यज्ञ विधि-विधान की दृष्टि से त्रुटिहीन था। अश्वमेध जैसे महायज्ञ में, जो कई दिनों तक चलता है, अनुशासन बनाए रखना कठिन होता है। परन्तु यहाँ बताया गया है कि 'दिवसे दिवसे' (प्रतिदिन) वही निष्ठा बनी रहती थी। ब्राह्मणों के लिए 'कुशला' विशेषण का प्रयोग किया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि वे अपने कार्य में निपुण थे। वे केवल रटा-रटाया कार्य नहीं कर रहे थे, बल्कि उन्हें हर विधि का गहरा ज्ञान था। किसी भी अनुष्ठान की सफलता उसकी विधि की शुद्धता पर निर्भर करती है। यहाँ यह सुनिश्चित किया गया कि अग्नि प्रज्वलित करने से लेकर मंत्रोच्चारण तक, सब कुछ वैदिक नियमों के कठोर पालन के साथ किया गया।
