Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रवर्ग्यम् शास्त्रतः कृत्वा तथा एव उपसदम् द्विजाः ।
चक्रुः च विधिवत् सर्वम् अधिकम् कर्म शास्त्रतः ॥ ॥१-१४-४॥
Pravargyam śāstrataḥ kṛtvā tathā eva upasadam dvijāḥ । Cakruḥ ca vidhivat sarvam adhikam karma śāstrataḥ ॥ ॥1-14-4॥
Translation
Having performed the 'Pravargya' and 'Upasada' rites strictly according to the scriptures, the Twice-borns also duly completed all other additional rituals prescribed by the texts.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन ब्राह्मणों ने 'प्रवर्ग्य' और 'उपसद' नामक कर्मों को शास्त्र विधि से पूरा किया। तथा अन्य सभी अतिरिक्त कर्मों को भी विधिपूर्वक संपन्न किया।
English Commentary

यह श्लोक तकनीकी है। 'प्रवर्ग्य' और 'उपसद' सोमयाग के विशिष्ट प्रारंभिक चरण हैं। प्रवर्ग्य में मिट्टी के पात्र (महावीर) में घी उबाला जाता है, जो तेज का प्रतीक है। उपसद में विशेष होम होते हैं। वाल्मीकि जी इन शब्दों का प्रयोग कर यह सिद्ध करते हैं कि रामायण काल में वैदिक कर्मकांड अपने पूर्ण विकसित और शुद्ध रूप में प्रचलित था।
