Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
क्रतुं समाप्य तु तदा न्यायतः पुरुषर्षभः ।
ऋत्विग्भ्यो हि ददौ राजा धराम् ताम् कुलवर्धनः ॥ ॥१-१४-४५॥
Kratuṃ samāpya tu tadā nyāyataḥ puruṣarṣabhaḥ । Ṛtvigbhyo hi dadau rājā dharām tām kulavardhanaḥ ॥ ॥1-14-45॥
Translation
Having concluded the sacrifice in accordance with the law, that Bull among Men (Dasharatha) indeed gave away the earth to the officiating priests.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस पुरुष-श्रेष्ठ (दशरथ) ने विधि-विधान (न्याय) से यज्ञ समाप्त करके, वह पूरी पृथ्वी (राज्य/धरती) उन ऋत्विजों (पुरोहितों) को दान कर दी।
English Commentary
This verse confirms the execution of the donation. Dasharatha acts as a 'Purusharshabha' (Bull among men), a title denoting strength and virility—here, the moral strength to renounce power. He handed over the 'Dharam' (the earth/land) to the priests. The repetition of 'Kulavardhanah' (lineage expander) implies a spiritual exchange: he trades his land (material power) for divine grace (progeny). It signifies that he valued the future of his lineage more than his current possession of the earth.

यहाँ पुष्टि की जा रही है कि राजा ने केवल संकल्प नहीं लिया, बल्कि वास्तव में 'ददौ' (दे दी)। 'पुरुषर्षभः' (पुरुषों में ऋषभ/बैल, अर्थात् श्रेष्ठ) शब्द का प्रयोग उनके साहस को दिखाता है। राज्य का मोह त्यागना सबसे कठिन कार्य है। दशरथ ने एक क्षण भी संकोच नहीं किया क्योंकि वे 'न्यायतः' (नियमों के अनुसार) चल रहे थे। यह दान उनके चरित्र की महानता और ईश्वर में उनके विश्वास को प्रमाणित करता है।
