Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तो नरपतिः ब्राह्मणैः वेद पारगैः ।
गवाम् शत सहस्राणि दश तेभ्यो ददौ नृपः ॥ ॥१-१४-५०॥
Evam ukto narapatiḥ brāhmaṇaiḥ veda pāragaiḥ |
Gavām śata sahasrāṇi daśa tebhyo dadau nṛpaḥ ॥1-14-50॥
Translation
Address thus by the Brahmins who were experts in the Vedas, the King (Dasharatha) gave them ten hundred thousand (one million) cows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वेद-पारंगत ब्राह्मणों के ऐसा कहने पर, राजा दशरथ ने उन्हें दस लाख (सौ बार हजार) गायें दान में दीं।
English Commentary
Upon hearing the request of the Veda-versed Brahmins, King Dasharatha immediately honored their wish. The quantity mentioned here—one million cows—demonstrates the sheer scale of the King's wealth and generosity. In Vedic culture, Godaana (the gift of cows) is considered one of the highest forms of charity. Dasharatha’s willingness to pivot from offering the kingdom to offering immense material wealth shows his flexibility and deep respect for the priests, ensuring they left the Yajna fully satisfied.

ऋत्विजों के वचन सुनकर राजा दशरथ ने उनकी इच्छा का सम्मान किया। यहाँ 'दश शत सहस्राणि' का अर्थ दस लाख है। गोदान को सनातन धर्म में अत्यंत पवित्र और महादान माना गया है। राजा दशरथ की उदारता यहाँ स्पष्ट होती है; उन्होंने न केवल ब्राह्मणों के इनकार को स्वीकार किया, बल्कि तुरंत ही प्रचुर मात्रा में गोधन प्रदान कर अपनी दानशीलता का परिचय दिया। यह राजा की अपने पुरोहितों के प्रति श्रद्धा और यज्ञ की पूर्णता के लिए उनकी प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।
