जांबूनदम् कोओटि संख्यम् ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ तदा ।
दरिद्राय द्विजाय अथ हस्त आभरणम् उत्तमम् ॥ ॥१-१४-५४॥
Jāmbūnadam koṭi saṃkhyam brāhmaṇebhyo dadau tadā |
Daridrāya dvijāya atha hasta ābharaṇam uttamam ॥1-14-54॥
Translation
Then he gave ten million gold coins to the Brahmins. And to a certain poor Brahmin, he gave an excellent ornament from his own hand.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब राजा ने ब्राह्मणों को करोड़ों की संख्या में जाम्बूनद (श्रेष्ठ प्रकार का स्वर्ण) दिया। और तभी, एक दरिद्र ब्राह्मण को अपने हाथ का उत्तम आभूषण उतार कर दे दिया।
English Commentary
This verse captures a touching moment of personal benevolence amidst a massive ceremony. While distributing millions in gold from the treasury, Dasharatha noticed a specifically poor Brahmin. Without waiting for his treasurers, the King spontaneously removed a precious ornament from his own wrist and gifted it to him. This act differentiates bureaucratic charity from personal empathy. It shows Dasharatha’s heart was as open as his treasury, and he was accessible even to the poorest amidst the grandeur of the sacrifice.

यहाँ राजा की व्यक्तिगत करुणा का एक मार्मिक प्रसंग है। सामान्य दान के बीच, दशरथ की दृष्टि एक निर्धन ब्राह्मण पर पड़ी। राजा ने नियमों की परवाह न करते हुए या कोष से धन मंगवाने की प्रतीक्षा न करते हुए, तत्काल अपने हाथ का कंगन (आभूषण) उतारकर उसे दे दिया। यह घटना सिद्ध करती है कि दशरथ केवल एक यजमान नहीं थे, बल्कि एक प्रजावत्सल राजा थे जो व्यक्ति विशेष के कष्ट को देखकर द्रवित हो जाते थे। 'जाम्बूनद' नदी के स्वर्ण को अत्यंत शुद्ध माना जाता है।
