नैनम् सूर्यः प्रतपति पार्श्वे वाति न मारुतः ।
चलोर्मिमाली तम् दृष्ट्वा समुद्रोऽपि न कम्पते ॥ ॥१-१५-१०॥
Nainam sūryaḥ pratapati pārśve vāti na mārutaḥ |
Calormimālī tam dṛṣṭvā samudro'pi na kampate ॥1-15-10॥
Translation
The Sun does not burn him (with heat); the Wind does not blow beside him; and even the Ocean, usually crowned with shifting waves, ceases to move upon seeing him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (रावण) के भय से सूर्य उसे तपाता नहीं है (गर्मी नहीं देता), वायु उसके पास से बहने में डरती है, और चंचल लहरों की माला धारण करने वाला समुद्र भी उसे देखकर हिलता नहीं है (शांत हो जाता है)।
English Commentary
Ravana's terror extends beyond sentient beings to the very forces of nature. The Sun, Wind, and Ocean—usually uncontrollable elemental forces—subdue themselves in his presence out of sheer fear. The Ocean "ceasing to move" (na kampate) signifies a total freeze of natural laws. This imagery emphasizes that Ravana’s tyranny is an ecological and cosmic disturbance, not just a political one. It sets the stage for why the Supreme Preserver (Vishnu) acts to restore balance.

रावण का आतंक केवल जीवित प्राणियों तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि पंचतत्वों (प्रकृति) पर भी उसका नियंत्रण है। यह 'अतिशयोक्ति' नहीं बल्कि उसके प्रताप का वर्णन है। सूर्य, वायु और समुद्र—जो प्रकृति की अनियंत्रित शक्तियाँ हैं—वे भी रावण के सामने अपनी स्वाभाविक गति छोड़ देते हैं। यह भय मिश्रित सम्मान नहीं, बल्कि पूर्णतः भय है। जब प्रकृति का संतुलन (Natural Order) एक व्यक्ति के डर से बाधित होने लगे, तो यह ब्रह्मांडीय असंतुलन का संकेत है।
