Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन गन्धर्व यक्षाणाम् देवतानाम् च रक्षसाम् ।
अवध्योऽस्मि इति वागुक्ता तथेति उक्तम् च तन् मया ॥ ॥१-१५-१३॥
Tena gandharva yakṣāṇām devatānām ca rakṣasām |
Avadhyo'smi iti vāguktā tatheti uktam ca tan mayā ॥1-15-13॥
Translation
"He had said, 'May I be indestructible to Gandharvas, Yakshas, Devas, and Rakshasas.' And I had replied to him, 'So be it.'"

"उसने (वर मांगते समय) कहा था कि—'मैं गन्धर्वों, यक्षों, देवताओं और राक्षसों से अवध्य (न मारा जाने योग्य) रहूँ।' और मैंने भी उससे 'तथास्तु' (ऐसा ही हो) कह दिया था।"
English Commentary
Brahma recites the terms of the boon. Ravana meticulously listed all powerful celestial and supernatural beings—Gandharvas, Yakshas, Gods, and other Demons—to ensure his immortality against them. Brahma confirms he granted this specific request with Tatheti ("Let it be so"). This recitation serves as the setup for the revelation of the fatal flaw in Ravana's request: the entities he failed to mention.

ब्रह्मा जी यहाँ उस 'कानूनी अनुबंध' (contract) को दोहरा रहे हैं जो उनके और रावण के बीच हुआ था। रावण ने अपनी सुरक्षा सूची में देव, गन्धर्व, यक्ष और यहाँ तक कि राक्षसों को भी शामिल किया था ताकि कोई प्रतिद्वंद्वी उसे मार न सके। ब्रह्मा जी ने 'तथेति' कहकर इसे स्वीकार कर लिया था। इस श्लोक का उद्देश्य यह स्पष्ट करना है कि रावण ने किन-किन से सुरक्षा मांगी थी, ताकि यह पता चल सके कि उसने किसे छोड़ दिया था।
