Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
क्रीडयन्तो नन्दन वने रौद्रेण विनिपातिताः ।
वधार्थम् वयम् आयाताः तस्य वै मुनिभिः सह ॥ ॥१-१५-२४॥
Krīḍayanto Nandana vane raudreṇa vinipātitāḥ । Vadhārtham vayam āyātāḥ tasya vai munibhiḥ saha ॥ ॥1-15-24॥
Translation
Even while sporting in the Nandana garden (Indra's paradise), celestial beings are struck down by that terrible one. We have come to You, along with the sages, seeking his destruction.
हिंदी अनुवाद
नंदन वन में क्रीड़ा करते हुए देवताओं और गंधर्वों को उस क्रूर (रावण) ने गिरा दिया (पराजित/अपमानित किया)। उसी के वध के लिए हम मुनियों के साथ आपकी शरण में आए हैं।
English Commentary
Ravana's terror knows no bounds; he violates even the sanctity of the Nandana Vana, the pleasure garden of Indra. Attacking celestial beings in their moments of leisure displays his cruel (raudra) nature. This verse highlights the urgency—there is no sanctuary left, not even in heaven. This total lack of safety drives the collective deputation of gods and sages to Vishnu.

रावण का आतंक इतना बढ़ गया है कि स्वर्ग का सुरक्षित उद्यान ‘नंदन वन’ भी सुरक्षित नहीं है। वहाँ आनंद प्रमोद (क्रीड़ा) करते हुए देवताओं पर आक्रमण करना उसकी क्रूरता (रौद्र रूप) को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक स्थिति की तात्कालिकता (urgency) को बताता है—कहीं भी सुरक्षा नहीं बची है। इसी भय और संकट के कारण देवता और मुनि एक साथ मिलकर विष्णु के पास आए हैं।
