भार्याणाम् अनुरूपाणाम् अश्नीत इति प्रयच्छ वै ।
तासु त्वम् लप्स्यसे पुत्रान् यदर्थम् यजसे नृप ॥ ॥१-१६-२०॥
bhāryāṇām anurūpāṇām aśnīta iti prayaccha vai |
tāsu tvam lapsyase putrān yadartham yajase nṛpa ॥1-16-20॥
Translation
"Give this to your worthy wives, saying 'Eat this.' Through them, you shall obtain the sons for whose sake you are performing this sacrifice, O King."

"हे राजन! अपनी उन रानियों को, जो तुम्हारे अनुरूप (योग्य) हैं, इसे खाने के लिए दो। जिसके लिए तुम यह यज्ञ कर रहे हो, उन पुत्रों को तुम उन्हीं रानियों से प्राप्त करोगे।"
English Commentary
This verse contains the operational instruction for the miracle. Dasharatha is told to distribute the divine dessert among his "worthy" (anurūpāṇām) wives. The phrasing confirms that the biological mothers will be his queens, but the conception will be divinely aided by the Payasam. The promise is explicit: "You shall obtain sons." This brings the narrative arc of the Putrakameshti Yajna to its resolution. The phrase yadartham yajase (for whose sake you sacrifice) connects the grueling rituals of the past year directly to this moment of consumption. It is a guarantee from the heavens that the goal is within reach.

यहाँ पायस के वितरण का निर्देश दिया गया है। 'अनुरूपाणाम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है वे रानियाँ जो राजा के कुल, गुण और धर्म के अनुकूल हैं। आदेश स्पष्ट है कि रानियों को ही यह खीर ग्रहण करनी है। अंतिम पंक्ति में भविष्य की भविष्यवाणी है—"तुम पुत्रों को प्राप्त करोगे।" यह दशरथ के मन के संशय को पूरी तरह समाप्त कर देता है। यज्ञ का उद्देश्य ('यदर्थम् यजसे') अब सिद्ध होने वाला है। यह श्लोक इस बात की पुष्टि करता है कि संतान प्राप्ति का माध्यम यही रानियाँ होंगी, और यह पायस उस प्रक्रिया का उत्प्रेरक (catalyst) बनेगा।
