तथा इति नृपतिः प्रीतः शिरसा प्रति गृह्य ताम् ।
पात्रीम् देव अन्न संपूर्णाम् देव दत्ताम् हिरण्मयीम् ॥ ॥१-१६-२१॥
tathā iti nṛpatiḥ prītaḥ śirasā prati gṛhya tām |
pātrīm deva anna saṃpūrṇām deva dattām hiraṇmayīm ॥1-16-21॥
Translation
Saying "So be it," the joyful King accepted that golden vessel, given by the gods and full of divine food, with his head bowed in reverence.

राजा दशरथ ने अत्यंत प्रसन्न होकर "तथास्तु" (ऐसा ही हो) कहा और देव-अन्न से भरी हुई, देवताओं द्वारा दी गई उस स्वर्णमयी पात्री को सिर झुकाकर स्वीकार किया।
English Commentary
The moment of acceptance is depicted with deep cultural nuance. Dasharatha accepts the vessel shirasā (with his head), implying he bowed low or touched the vessel to his forehead—a gesture of supreme submission and gratitude. The verse reiterates the grandeur of the object: it is golden (hiraṇmayīm) and filled with god-given food (deva anna). The King's simple affirmation, "Tatha iti" (So be it), reflects his obedience to the divine command. His joy (prītaḥ) is boundless, marking the end of his despair over his childlessness. This physical transfer of the vessel symbolizes the transfer of divine energy (Shakti) into the solar dynasty (Ikshvaku Kula).

राजा दशरथ की प्रतिक्रिया यहाँ अत्यंत भावपूर्ण है। 'प्रीत:' शब्द उनकी आंतरिक खुशी को दर्शाता है, जिसकी प्रतीक्षा वे वर्षों से कर रहे थे। उन्होंने पात्र को 'शिरसा' (सिर से) स्वीकार किया। प्राचीन भारतीय परंपरा में, अत्यधिक सम्मान दिखाने के लिए किसी वस्तु को मस्तक से लगाया जाता है या सिर झुकाकर लिया जाता है। यह पात्री 'हिरण्मयीम्' (सोने की) और 'देवदत्ताम्' (देवताओं द्वारा दी गई) थी। दशरथ का यह विग्रह केवल एक राजा का नहीं, बल्कि एक कृतज्ञ भक्त का है। उन्होंने बिना किसी प्रश्न या संदेह के ईश्वरीय आदेश को शिरोधार्य किया। यह श्रद्धा की पराकाष्ठा है।
