हर्ष रश्मिभिः उद्द्योतम् तस्य अन्तःपुरम् आबभौ ।
शारदस्य अभिरामस्य चंद्रस्य इव नभः अंशुभिः ॥ ॥१-१६-२५॥
harṣa raśmibhiḥ uddyotam tasya antaḥpuram ābabhau |
śāradasya abhirāmasya caṃdrasya iva nabhaḥ aṃśubhiḥ ॥1-16-25॥
Translation
The inner palace of the King shone with rays of joy, just as the autumn sky shines brightly with the rays of the lovely moon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस राजा का अंतःपुर (रानियों का निवास) हर्ष की किरणों से उसी प्रकार चमक उठा, जैसे सुंदर शरद ऋतु के चंद्रमा की किरणों से आकाश सुशोभित हो जाता है।
English Commentary
Valmiki uses a striking simile here to describe the transformation within the palace (Antahpura). Previously clouded by the gloom of barrenness, the atmosphere is now illuminated by 'rays of joy.' The comparison to the 'autumn moon' (Sharad Chandra) is culturally significant; in Indian literature, autumn marks the end of the dark, heavy monsoon rains, symbolizing clarity, purity, and brightness. The arrival of the divine vessel has cleared the clouds of despair, filling the queens' quarters with a luminous hope comparable to a clear moonlit sky.

यहाँ महर्षि वाल्मीकि ने वातावरण के परिवर्तन का सुंदर वर्णन किया है। अब तक जो अंतःपुर संतान न होने के कारण उदासी और अंधकार में डूबा था, वह अब 'हर्ष रश्मिभिः' (खुशी की किरणों) से जगमगा उठा। उपमा 'शारदस्य चंद्रस्य' (शरद ऋतु का चंद्रमा) की दी गई है। वर्षा ऋतु के बादलों (दुःख) के हट जाने के बाद जैसे शरद का आकाश निर्मल और उज्ज्वल होता है, वैसे ही पायस प्राप्ति के बाद रानियों के चेहरे और महल का वातावरण खिला हुआ था। यह श्लोक आशा और नवजीवन का प्रतीक है।
