अप्रमेय बला वीरा विक्रान्ताः काम रूपिणः ।
ते गज अचल संकाशा वपुष्मंतो महाबलाः ॥ ॥१-१७-१८॥
Aprameya balā vīrā vikrāntāḥ kāma rūpiṇaḥ । Te gaja acala saṃkāśā vapuṣmanto mahābalāḥ ॥ ॥1-17-18॥
Translation
Possessing immeasurable strength, these brave warriors were capable of changing their form at will (Kama-rupinah). They resembled elephants and mountains in size, possessing magnificent bodies and great might.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे सभी वीर, पराक्रमी और 'काम-रूपी' (इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले) थे। उनका बल अतुलनीय (अप्रमेय) था। वे हाथियों और पर्वतों के समान विशाल शरीर वाले तथा महाबली थे।
English Commentary
This verse describes the supernatural attributes of the Vanara army. The term Kama-rupinah (shapeshifters) is vital context for the battles ahead, explaining how monkeys could fight gigantic demons on equal footing. Their comparison to mountains (achala) and elephants (gaja) conveys unshakeable stability and mass. The repetition of concepts of strength (Aprameya bala, Mahabalah) emphasizes that despite their animalistic appearance, their prowess was beyond earthly measures. This description sets the stage for the titanic clashes described in the Yuddha Kanda.
