Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चारणाः च सुतान् वीरान् ससृजुः वन चारिणः ।
वानरान् सु महाकायान् सर्वान् वै वन चारिणः ॥ ॥१-१७-२३॥
Cāraṇāḥ ca sutān vīrān sasṛjuḥ vana cāriṇaḥ । Vānarān su mahākāyān sarvān vai vana cāriṇaḥ ॥ ॥1-17-23॥
Translation
The Charanas (celestial bards) also created heroic sons—huge-bodied Vanaras who wandered the forests.
हिंदी अनुवाद
चारणों (स्तुति करने वाले देवताओं) ने भी वीर, वन में विचरण करने वाले तथा विशाल शरीर वाले वानर पुत्रों की सृष्टि की।
English Commentary
This verse continues the genealogy of the Vanara host. The Charanas are celestial bards or panegyrists. Even they contributed to the army by siring sons. The emphasis here is on Mahakayan (gigantic bodies) and Vana charinah (forest dwellers). It reinforces the idea that while these beings lived primitively in the forests, their genetic makeup was celestial, granting them sizes and abilities far beyond normal wildlife.

यहाँ वानर सेना की उत्पत्ति के वर्णन का विस्तार किया गया है। 'चारण' देवता वे होते हैं जो आकाश में विचरण करते हुए देवताओं की कीर्ति गाते हैं। उन्होंने भी 'महाकायान्' (विशाल शरीर वाले) पुत्रों को जन्म दिया। यह श्लोक बताता है कि वानर सेना में केवल योद्धा देवताओं का ही अंश नहीं था, बल्कि ललित कलाओं और स्तुति से जुड़े देवों का भी योगदान था। यद्यपि वे 'वन चारिणः' (वनवासी) थे, फिर भी उनका मूल दिव्य था।
