Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नख दन्ष्ट्र आयुधाः सर्वे सर्वे सर्व अस्त्र कोविदाः ।
विचाल येयुः शैलेन्द्रान् भेद येयुः स्थिरान् द्रुमान् ॥ ॥१-१७-२६॥
Nakha danṣṭra āyudhāḥ sarve sarve sarva astra kovidāḥ । Vicāla yeyuḥ śailendrāṇ bheda yeyuḥ sthirān drumān ॥ ॥1-17-26॥
Translation
All of them used nails and teeth as weapons, yet they were experts in all celestial missiles (Astras). They could shake the lords of mountains and split apart firmly rooted trees.

उन सभी के अस्त्र उनके नाखून और दाँत थे, फिर भी वे सभी प्रकार के अस्त्रों (के ज्ञान) में कुशल थे। वे विशाल पर्वतों को हिला सकते थे और स्थिर वृक्षों को भी चीर सकते थे।
English Commentary
Here lies a fascinating paradox characterizing the Vanaras. They are Nakha danshtra ayudhah (armed with claws and fangs), appearing primal. Yet, they are Sarva astra kovidah (learned in all missiles/weaponry). This implies that their choice to fight with claws/trees was not out of ignorance, but preference or biological mandate. They possessed the intellect of generals within the bodies of beasts, capable of uprooting the very geography (Shailendran - lord of mountains).

यह श्लोक एक विरोधाभास और अद्भुत संयोग प्रस्तुत करता है। एक ओर वे 'नख दन्ष्ट्र आयुधाः' (नाखून और दाँतों से लड़ने वाले) हैं, और दूसरी ओर 'सर्व अस्त्र कोविदाः' (सभी अस्त्रों के ज्ञानी) हैं। इसका अर्थ है कि यद्यपि वे पशु रूप में थे, उनका ज्ञान देवताओं जैसा था। वे अस्त्र-विद्या जानते थे, पर उनका शारीरिक बल इतना अधिक था कि उन्हें अस्त्रों की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ी; वे पर्वतों को हिलाने में सक्षम थे।
