Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नभस्थलम् विशेयुर् च गृह्णीयुर् अपि तोयदान् ।
गृह्णीयुर् अपि मातंगान् मत्तान् प्रव्रजतो वने ॥ ॥१-१७-२८॥
Nabhasthalam viśeyur ca gṛhṇīyur api toyadān । Gṛhṇīyur api mātaṃgān mattān pravrajato vane ॥ ॥1-17-28॥
Translation
They could enter the sky and seize the clouds. They could even capture intoxicated elephants roaming in the forest.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे आकाश में प्रवेश कर सकते थे और बादलों (तोयदान्) को पकड़ सकते थे। वे वन में घूमते हुए मतवाले हाथियों को भी पकड़ (काबू कर) सकते थे।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates their dominion over both air and land. Entering the sky and seizing clouds implies an ability to defy gravity, consistent with their wind-god lineage associations. On the ground, subduing a Matta Matanga (an intoxicated/rutting elephant)—considered the most dangerous animal in Indian poetry—demonstrates their absolute physical superiority over the natural world.

यह श्लोक उनकी आकाश-गमन शक्ति और शारीरिक बल दोनों को दर्शाता है। बादलों को पकड़ना उनकी ऊँची छलांग और वायु-तत्व पर उनके नियंत्रण को दर्शाता है। दूसरी ओर, 'मत्त हाथी' (जो बल और अनियंत्रण का प्रतीक है) को पकड़ लेना यह सिद्ध करता है कि जंगल के सबसे शक्तिशाली जानवर भी इन वानरों के सामने खिलौने समान थे।
