महाबलो महाबाहुः वाली विपुल विक्रमः ।
जुगोप भुज वीर्येण ऋक्ष गोपुच्छ वानरान् ॥ ॥१-१७-३५॥
Mahābalo mahābāhuḥ Vālī vipula vikramaḥ । Jugopa bhuja vīryeṇa ṛkṣa gopuccha vānarān ॥ ॥1-17-35॥
Translation
The mighty-armed Vali, possessed of immense strength and great valor, protected all the bears, cow-tailed monkeys, and Vanaras by the power of his arms.

महाबली, विशाल भुजाओं वाले और अत्यधिक पराक्रमी 'वाली' ने अपने बाहुबल से उन सभी रीछों, गोपुच्छों (लंगूरों) और वानरों की रक्षा की।
English Commentary
Vali is enshrined here as the supreme monarch and protector. The specific mention of protecting bears, Gopucchas, and Vanaras indicates his sovereignty over diverse tribes. The phrase Bhuja viryena (by the strength of his arms) highlights that his rule was maintained through personal might. Vali is described as Mahabalah (greatly strong) and Vipula vikramah (of immense valor), traits that made him invincible in single combat and the central pillar of safety for the entire Vanara race until his encounter with Rama.

यह श्लोक वाली को निर्विवाद रूप से वानरों का राजा स्थापित करता है। 'जुगोप' (रक्षा की) शब्द राजा के मुख्य कर्तव्य को दर्शाता है। वाली केवल एक योद्धा नहीं था, बल्कि एक संरक्षक (Protector) था जिसने रीछ, वानर और लंगूर—तीनों प्रजातियों को सुरक्षा प्रदान की। 'महाबाहु' और 'भुज वीर्येण' उसके शारीरिक बल पर जोर देते हैं, जिससे यह संकेत मिलता है कि किष्किंधा का शासन उसके निजी बल पर टिका था। यही बल बाद में उसे अजेय बनाता है जब तक कि राम उसका वध नहीं करते।
