पूर्वम् एव मया सृष्टो जांबवान् ऋक्ष पुङ्गवः ।
जृंभमाणस्य सहसा मम वक्रात् अजायत ॥ ॥१-१७-७॥
pūrvam eva mayā sṛṣṭo jāṃbavān ṛkṣa puṅgavaḥ |
jṛṃbhamāṇasya sahasā mama vakrāt ajāyata ॥1-17-7॥
Translation
I have already created Jambavan, the best among bears. He was born suddenly from my mouth while I was yawning.

मैंने पहले ही ऋक्षों (रीछों) में श्रेष्ठ जाम्बवान को उत्पन्न कर दिया है। वह मेरे जम्हाई लेते समय (जृंभमाणस्य) अचानक मेरे मुख से उत्पन्न हुआ था।
English Commentary
Brahma highlights the pre-existence of Jambavan, the King of Bears (Riksha Pungava). Unlike the others who are yet to be born, Jambavan was created directly from Brahma's mouth during a yawn (Jrimbhamanasya). This gives Jambavan a unique status as the eldest and most ancient of the group, serving as the wise counselor to the army. His origin story explains his immense lifespan (spanning multiple avatars) and his role as the keeper of ancient knowledge within the Ramayana narrative.

यह श्लोक जाम्बवान की विशिष्टता और प्राचीनता को दर्शाता है। वे अन्य वानर वीरों की तरह देवताओं के अंश नहीं, बल्कि स्वयं सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा के प्रत्यक्ष पुत्र हैं। उनका जन्म ब्रह्मा की जम्हाई (yawn) से हुआ, इसलिए उनका नाम जाम्बवान पड़ा। वे सतयुग से ही जीवित हैं (वामन अवतार के समय भी वे थे)। सेना में उनकी भूमिका सबसे बुजुर्ग और बुद्धिमान मंत्री की है। जब हनुमान जी अपनी शक्ति भूल जाते हैं, तो जाम्बवान ही उन्हें याद दिलाते हैं। वे अनुभव और ज्ञान के प्रतीक हैं।
