Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रोद्यमाने जगन्नाथम् सर्व लोक नमस्कृतम् ।
कौसल्या अजनयत् रामम् सर्व लक्षण संयुतम् ॥ ॥१-१८-१०॥
prodyamāne jagannātham sarva loka namaskṛtam । kausalyā ajanayat rāmam sarva lakṣaṇa saṃyutam ॥ ॥1-18-10॥
Translation
At that auspicious moment, Kausalya gave birth to Rama, the Lord of the Universe, who is bowed to by all worlds and is endowed with all auspicious marks.

तब माता कौसल्या ने समस्त लोकों द्वारा वंदित, संपूर्ण शुभ लक्षणों से युक्त, जगन्नाथ (जगत के स्वामी) श्री राम को जन्म दिया।
English Commentary
Valmiki explicitly identifies the newborn not merely as a prince, but as Jagannatham—the Lord of the Universe. The phrase sarva lakshana samyutam implies physical perfection according to the ancient texts of physiotherapy (Samudrika Shastra), indicating a divine origin. While he is born as a human infant to Kausalya, the verse reminds the reader of his cosmic stature ('worshipped by all worlds'). It highlights the dual nature of the Avatar: fully human in birth, yet fully divine in essence.

यहाँ 'जगन्नाथम्' शब्द का प्रयोग करके कवि ने स्पष्ट कर दिया है कि यह केवल एक राजकुमार का जन्म नहीं है, बल्कि स्वयं जगत के स्वामी का प्राकट्य है। 'सर्व लक्षण संयुतम्' का अर्थ है कि उनके शरीर पर सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार महापुरुष के सभी ३२ लक्षण (जैसे चक्र, कमल, ध्वज आदि के चिन्ह) विद्यमान थे। माता कौसल्या का सौभाग्य अद्वितीय है कि वे परब्रह्म की जननी बनीं। यहाँ राम के जन्म को एक लौकिक घटना से ऊपर उठाकर आध्यात्मिक उत्सव के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है।
