कौसल्या शुशुभे तेन पुत्रेण अमित तेजसा ।
यथा वरेण देवानाम् अदितिः वज्र पाणिना ॥ ॥१-१८-१२॥
kausalyā śuśubhe tena putreṇa amita tejasā । yathā vareṇa devānām aditiḥ vajra pāṇinā ॥ ॥1-18-12॥
Translation
With that son of infinite radiance, Kausalya shone resplendent, just as Aditi shone with her son Indra, the wielder of the thunderbolt (Vajra).
हिंदी अनुवाद
अमित तेजस्वी पुत्र को पाकर माता कौसल्या उसी प्रकार सुशोभित हुईं, जैसे वज्रधारी इंद्र को पाकर देवताओं की माता अदिति सुशोभित हुई थीं।
English Commentary
A classic simile connects the earthly realm to the celestial. Kausalya is equated to Aditi, the mother of the gods, and Rama to Indra, the king of gods. This establishes Rama's status as a protector and ruler. The phrase amita tejasa (limitless radiance) suggests that the baby emanated a glow that was not ordinary. The verse emphasizes that Kausalya's beauty was enhanced by her motherhood, validating the cultural belief that a child is the mother's greatest ornament.

यहाँ उपमा अलंकार का सुंदर प्रयोग है। कौसल्या की तुलना 'अदिति' (देवमाता) से और राम की तुलना 'इंद्र' (देवराज) से की गई है। जिस प्रकार इंद्र देवताओं के रक्षक हैं, उसी प्रकार राम मनुष्यों के रक्षक होंगे। 'अमित तेजसा' (असीम तेज) बताता है कि नवजात शिशु के चेहरे पर एक अलौकिक आभा थी। यह तुलना केवल माँ-बेटे के प्रेम की नहीं, बल्कि उस गौरव की है जो एक महान संतान को जन्म देने पर माता को प्राप्त होता है।
