जगुः कलम् च गंधर्वा ननृतुः च अप्सरो गणाः ।
देव दुंदुभयो नेदुः पुष्प वृष्टिः च खात् पतत् ॥१-१८-१७॥
jaguḥ kalam ca gandharvā nanṛtuḥ ca apsaro gaṇāḥ |
deva dundubhayo neduḥ puṣpa vṛṣṭiḥ ca khāt patat ॥1-18-17॥
Translation
The Gandharvas sang in melodious tones and troops of Apsaras danced. The celestial drums of the Devas resounded, and a shower of flowers fell from the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(इन कुमारों के जन्म के अवसर पर) गंधर्व मधुर स्वर में गान करने लगे और अप्सराओं के समूह नृत्य करने लगे। देवताओं की दुंदुभियां (नगाड़े) बज उठीं और आकाश से पुष्पों की वर्षा होने लगी।
English Commentary
This verse signifies the cosmic resonance of the event. The birth of Rama and his brothers is not merely a dynastic continuation for Ayodhya but a pivotal moment for the entire universe. The reaction of the celestial beings—Gandharvas (celestial musicians) and Apsaras (celestial dancers)—indicates that the plan devised by the Devas to counter Ravana is now in motion. The sounding of celestial drums ('Deva dundubhi') serves as a divine proclamation of victory over darkness. The rain of flowers ('pushpa vrishti') from the sky is a standard motif in Sanskrit epics to denote divine approval and blessings. It suggests that the barrier between the mortal realm and the divine realm has thinned, as the Divine itself has taken a mortal form.

सनातन धर्म और काव्यों में यह परंपरा रही है कि जब भी पृथ्वी पर किसी ईश्वरीय शक्ति या महापुरुष का अवतरण होता है, तो प्रकृति और देवलोक भी उस उत्सव में सम्मिलित होते हैं। यहाँ वाल्मीकि यह स्पष्ट कर रहे हैं कि यह कोई सामान्य राजसी जन्म नहीं है, बल्कि यह 'विष्णु' के अवतार का प्रकटीकरण है। गंधर्वों का गायन और अप्सराओं का नृत्य आनंद की पराकाष्ठा को दर्शाता है। 'देव दुंदुभी' का बजना विजय और शुभता का प्रतीक है—यह अधर्म पर धर्म की भावी विजय की पूर्वघोषणा है। आकाश से पुष्प वर्षा होना यह दर्शाता है कि देवतागण भी दशरथ के आंगन में हुए इस चमत्कार पर अपनी कृतज्ञता और आशीर्वाद अर्पित कर रहे हैं, क्योंकि रावण के भय से मुक्ति का मार्ग अब खुल गया है।
