Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सर्वे ज्ञानोपसंपन्नाः सर्वे समुदिता गुणैः ।
तेषाम् अपि महातेजा रामः सत्य पराक्रमः ॥१-१८-२६॥
sarve jñānopasaṃpannāḥ sarve samuditāḥ guṇaiḥ |
teṣām api mahātejā rāmaḥ satya parākramaḥ ॥1-18-26॥
Translation
All of them were endowed with wisdom and possessed of all virtues. Yet, among them, Rama was exceptionally resplendent and of truthful valor (one whose might is Truth).

वे सभी (चारों भाई) ज्ञान से संपन्न और समस्त गुणों से युक्त थे। फिर भी, उनमें राम महातेजस्वी और 'सत्य-पराक्रमी' (जिनका सत्य ही बल है) थे।
English Commentary
While all four brothers were paragons of virtue and wisdom, Valmiki distinguishes Rama as the primus inter pares (first among equals). The epithet Satya-parakrama is significant and recurs throughout the epic to describe Rama. It implies that his valor is rooted in Truth (Satya). In the Vedic worldview, truth is not just speech but an ontological power; a warrior anchored in truth cannot be defeated because truth is the fundamental order of the universe (Rta). Thus, Rama's strength lies not just in physical prowess but in his unwavering alignment with Dharma. 'Mahateja' refers to his overwhelming radiance or spiritual charisma that sets him apart even among his virtuous brothers.

यद्यपि चारों भाई वेदों के ज्ञाता और सद्गुणों की खान थे, महर्षि वाल्मीकि यहाँ राम को 'तेषाम् अपि' (उनमें भी) विशिष्ट स्थान देते हैं। राम के लिए यहाँ दो विशेषण प्रयुक्त हुए हैं: 'महातेजा' और 'सत्य पराक्रमः'। 'महातेजा' उनके दैवीय ओज और व्यक्तित्व के प्रभाव को दर्शाता है। 'सत्य पराक्रमः' रामायण में राम का एक परिभाषित गुण (Signature epithet) है। इसका अर्थ है कि उनका पराक्रम कभी निष्फल नहीं होता क्योंकि वह सत्य पर आधारित है, या उनका सबसे बड़ा हथियार ही 'सत्य' है। सामान्य योद्धा हथियारों से लड़ते हैं, किंतु राम धर्म और सत्य के बल पर लड़ते हैं। यह श्लोक स्थापित करता है कि समानता होने पर भी राम 'प्रथम' हैं।
