प्राणैः प्रियतरो नित्यम् तस्य च आसीत् तथा प्रियः ।
स चतुर्भिः महाभागैः पुत्रैः दशरथः प्रियैः ॥१-१८-३३॥

English Commentary
The mutual affection between Bharata and Shatrughna is consolidated here, mirroring the bond of the elder pair. The phrase pranaih priyataro (dearer than life) is repeated to emphasize the uniformity of love across the siblings. The narrative focus then shifts back to the father, Dasharatha. The adjective mahabhagaih (greatly fortunate/destined for greatness) describes the sons, implying that their unity is a sign of their glorious destiny. Dasharatha is surrounded by these four pillars of Dharma.

भरत और शत्रुघ्न का प्रेम भी राम-लक्ष्मण जैसा ही गहरा था। 'प्राणैः प्रियतरो' (प्राणों से प्रिय) वाक्यांश यह सिद्ध करता है कि इक्ष्वाकु वंश की यह पीढ़ी आपसी कलह से मुक्त थी। 'महाभागैः' (महाभाग्यशाली) शब्द पुत्रों के लिए प्रयोग किया गया है क्योंकि वे दैवीय गुणों से युक्त थे। राजा दशरथ इन चारों के बीच के प्रेम और एकता को देखकर परम संतोष का अनुभव करते थे। एक पिता के लिए इससे बड़ा सुख नहीं हो सकता कि उसके पुत्र न केवल योग्य हों, बल्कि आपस में प्रेम भी करते हों।
