शीघ्रम् आख्यात माम् प्राप्तम् कौशिकम् गाधिनः सुतम् ।
तत् श्रुत्वा वचनम् तस्य राज्ञो वेश्म प्रदुद्रुवुः ॥१-१८-४०॥
śīghram ākhyāta mām prāptam kauśikam gādhinaḥ sutam |
tat śrutvā vacanam tasya rājño veśma pradudruvuḥ ॥1-18-40॥
Translation
"Quickly announce that the son of Gadhi, Kaushika, has arrived." Hearing his words, they ran towards the King's palace.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"शीघ्र ही (राजा को) सूचित करो कि गाधि पुत्र कौशिक (विश्वामित्र) आया है।" उनके ये वचन सुनकर वे (द्वारपाल) राजा के भवन की ओर दौड़े।
English Commentary
Vishvamitra identifies himself by his lineage: 'Son of Gadhi' and 'Kaushika' (descendant of Kusha). This highlights his royal heritage, as he was a king before becoming a sage. The imperative Shighram (quickly) reveals his commanding personality; he is not one to be kept waiting. The reaction of the guards is visceral—they 'ran' (pradudruvuah) to the palace. This haste indicates the awe and perhaps fear that the great sage inspired. The atmosphere shifts from a calm royal consultation to one of urgent activity.
