Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रहृष्ट वदनो राजा ततः अर्घ्यम् उपहारयत् ।
स राज्ञः प्रतिगृह्य अर्घ्यम् शास्त्र दृष्टेन कर्मणा ॥१-१८-४४॥
prahṛṣṭa vadano rājā tataḥ arghyam upahārayat |
sa rājñaḥ pratigṛhya arghyam śāstra dṛṣṭena karmaṇā ॥1-18-44॥
Translation
With a cheerful face, the King then offered him Arghya (water for respectful reception). He (the Sage) accepted the Arghya from the King in accordance with scriptural injunctions.
हिंदी अनुवाद
राजा ने प्रसन्न मुख से उन्हें अर्घ्य अर्पित किया। उन्होंने (विश्वामित्र ने) शास्त्र-सम्मत विधि से राजा से वह अर्घ्य स्वीकार किया।
English Commentary
The verse details the rituals of hospitality (Atithi Satkar). Dasharatha offers Arghya—a traditional offering of water, flowers, and rice used to welcome honored guests. His 'cheerful face' conveys his willingness to serve. Vishvamitra accepts it following the 'scriptural ordinances' (shastra drishtena karmana). This adherence to protocol is important; despite his fiery nature, Vishvamitra is a strict follower of Vedic etiquette. The interaction establishes a formal bond of host and guest before the heavy matters of state and requests are discussed.

अतिथि सत्कार की वैदिक परंपरा का पालन यहाँ किया जा रहा है। 'अर्घ्य' (हाथ धोने और आचमन के लिए विशेष जल) प्रदान करना सम्मान का प्रथम चरण है। राजा का मुख 'प्रहृष्ट' (खिलखिलाता हुआ) था, जो दर्शाता है कि वे ऋषि के आगमन को सौभाग्य मानते हैं। विश्वामित्र ने भी 'शास्त्र दृष्टेन कर्मणा' (शास्त्रों में बताई गई विधि के अनुसार) अर्घ्य स्वीकार किया। इसका अर्थ है कि ऋषि ने भी राजा को उचित आशीर्वाद और सम्मान वापस दिया। यह दो महाशक्तियों—राजशक्ति और ब्रह्मशक्ति—का औपचारिक और गरिमामय मिलन है।
